KAWASAKI Gas Turbine Europe GmbH (KGE) is a subsidiary of KAWASAKI Heavy Industries. The entire European business is managed and controlled from the company headquarters in Bad Homburg. This consists of a complete and customized range of products and services from a single source. KGE's core business is the planning, production, installation and maintenance of gas turbine generator sets. More than 140 such plants in the combined heat and power process have already been installed in Europe, and over 7800 worldwide.

Chevron Phillips Chemical International - one of the world's largest producers of olefins and polyolefins and a leading supplier of aromatics, alpha-olefins, styrenics, specialty chemicals, plastic pipes and polymer resins - owns and operates a plant in Tessenderlo, Belgium, that produces organic sulphur compounds. The production of these products and the associated chemical processes generate a hydrogen-rich purge stream, i.e. a valuable hydrogen surplus that can be used to save energy and effectively decarbonize energy requirements.

Therefore, a natural gas-fired dry low emission (DLE) gas turbine GPB17D with an electrical output of 1.8 megawatts installed by Kawasaki in March 2021 has now been converted to a 30 volume percent H2 DLE system, which can be fed with the hydrogen produced on site as a by-product. Thanks to this new system, which was implemented and commissioned as part of standard maintenance, NOx emissions are kept below 15 percent. Since then, this plant has been the first gas turbine in the world that can be operated completely flexibly in the range from zero to 30 percent hydrogen by volume.
