Upkeep that keeps up with the times!
At HANNOVER MESSE 2019, ccc software GmbH is unveiling its latest innovation, imaso Maintenance, which is based on a maintenance system that has already proven itself in practice over the years.

The new imaso Maintenance software meets the latest standards in technology and design and scores particularly highly in terms of user-friendliness and simplicity. Given how complex maintenance operations can be, that's certainly no bad thing. After all, ad hoc repairs need to be completed as quickly as possible, appointments organized, contracts managed, agreements with third-party companies met and communication guaranteed between different departments. On top of all that, there are warehouses and spare parts to be managed as well. The most important task, however, is to keep production downtimes to an absolute minimum.

In the future, servicing, inspections and repairs will all be reported, scheduled and documented centrally using the new imaso Maintenance software, enabling companies to identify system-specific weaknesses and analyze and document breakdown risks. Thanks to its modular design, this software can be flexibly tailored to the needs of the user. The following modules are on show at HANNOVER MESSE 2019 in addition to the basic program - planning, analysis, spare parts store, personnel planning and condition monitoring. This new software is designed to provide the database needed to create transparency and efficiency, thereby reducing costs. Building on this basis, other areas can be effectively integrated, and systems such as the in-house MES or an ERP system can be linked in, thus laying the foundations for complex analyses and state-of-the-art predictive maintenance processes.

The perfect mix

JUMO's solution has been to pool its product and solution know-how in these key areas in the new JSP (JUMO Safety Performance) brand, which it is showcasing at HANNOVER MESSE 2019. The new JSP products feature a distinctive logo and are presented in a striking shade of yellow. At their heart is a compact, single-channel safety controller with selectable redundant input signals for temperature that can be used to achieve SIL 3 or PL e. By combining the JUMO safetyM safety temperature limiter/safety temperature monitor and certified JUMO sensor technology, the entire SIL chain of sensor, controller and actuator is calculated and delivered with the appropriate manufacturer's declaration. According to the developers, the JUMO safetyM STB/STW Ex is also suitable for ATEX/IECEx/EAC applications and complies with the Pressure Equipment and Machinery Directives. What's more, this solution can be implemented with almost all JUMO temperature probe types.

Knowledge is the key to the future
MAN Energy Solutions SE and TU Berlin are joining forces at a special exhibition area at HANNOVER MESSE 2019. On show are new technologies for training assembly staff in specialist mechanical engineering, intelligent battery production processes for e-mobility, and smart city concepts.

TUBS GmbH, a spin-off from TU Berlin, aims to get science and PR working hand in hand so that scientific findings can actually reach the people who can put them to good use, i.e. businesses. And what better venue could there be to introduce the potential of the research sector to the market than the flagship Research & Technology fair in Hannover, which is part of the event of the year for global industry? The special exhibition area in Hall 2 shared by MAN Energy Solutions SE and TU Berlin is exhibiting pioneering technologies for training assembly staff in specialist mechanical engineering as well as intelligent battery production processes for the e-mobility of tomorrow and smart city concepts for urban living.

At its site in Berlin, MAN Energy Solutions SE produces geared compressors for the oil and gas industry that boast outstanding efficiency, low running costs and a low investment outlay. However, manufacturing these products poses a challenge, as staff need specialist know-how if they are to assemble and maintain them efficiently. To meet this challenge the company teamed up with the Assembly Technology and Factory Management department at TU Berlin to develop a range of augmented reality (AR) training applications, which visitors can examine for themselves in Hannover.

The Assembly Technology and Factory Management department is also exhibiting a process that prevents downtimes in the battery cell production process sequence and is said to boost productivity by more than 150 percent compared to the international state of the art. The operating principle behind this innovative solution is being demonstrated at the fair using the eXtended Transport System (XTS) developed by Beckhoff.

Last but not least, TU Berlin's CHORA project - which is currently exploring intelligent prefabrication - is presenting examples of how components can be prefabricated in a way that is intelligent, responsive, flexible, modular and highly dynamic as well as economical in terms of both costs and resources. The technologies on show are designed to meet the urgent demand for new living space while reducing the negative impact on climate change.

The IBCs of supply chain logistics
If your sole focus is on maximizing profits, you might not mind how intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) are commonly used. But if you're keen to take greater responsibility for our planet, the startup Packwise is at HANNOVER MESSE 2019 to show how IBC management can be made much more eco-friendly.

The 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg should neither be exploited as cheap clickbait nor considered the new oracle of the 21st century. In fact, we need to counteract this cult-like focus on one person - which will do no good for our planet and clearly threatens to overburden this young woman with more responsibility than the stranded captains of industry. If we cast the net much wider instead, the Young Tech Enterprises exhibition area at HANNOVER MESSE 2019, which provides a world-renowned platform for the up-and-coming tech startup scene, is sure to fire up your optimism. We just have to hope the sustainable approaches on show - such as intelligent IBC management presented by the Dresden-based startup Packwise - will be put into practice.

Experts estimate that in Germany alone there are approximately 10 million IBCs circulating every year as standardized, efficient industrial packaging for storing and transporting liquid and free-flowing materials in the food and chemical industries. At many companies, the capital tied up in using stainless steel IBCs stretches into the tens of millions. After noticing the huge organizational outlay and massive carbon footprint generated by the use of plastic packaging in industry, Gesche Weger, Felix Weger and Rene Bernhardt founded Packwise GmbH in 2017 to seek answers to two burning issues. Firstly, they were keen to investigate how intelligent packaging cycles could be designed to enable IBCs to be reused in a much more economical and eco-friendly fashion. Secondly, they were determined to find a way of organizing IBCs efficiently that would reduce the heavy administrative burden and enable companies to reliably manage their inventories without losses.

The three founders are attending HANNOVER MESSE - at the futureSAX GmbH stand - to share their findings and explain how intelligent IBCs can pave the way for real-time automated supply chain logistics and customer service. This pioneering startup aspires to offer manufacturers and customers in the food and chemical industries an end-to-end, intelligent IBC management service by combining industry expertise with cutting-edge IT. The smart new process achieves this by digitally networking market operators and linking them to a platform that grants IBC users access to Europe's largest partner network for reconditioning and logistics. Ultimately, Packwise aims to enable companies to deploy IBCs faster and more frequently throughout their service life.

The rise and rise of cobots
By launching piCOBOT, a cleverly equipped plug-and-play add-on for cobot arms, PIAB Vakuum GmbH is keen to position its cutting-edge vacuum technology front and center in the much-heralded age of the cobot.

The concept of cobots - collaborative robots - can be traced back to two professors at Northwestern University in the United States. In 1996, they were the first to equip robots with sensors and visual recognition technology so they could be operated safely in close proximity to people. Today’s cobots are now so advanced that they can genuinely interact with people in a shared workspace. The safety barriers and cages that have commonly been needed to protect employees are increasingly becoming a thing of the past. PIAB Vakuum GmbH aims to take the lead in this trend, especially as market analysts are forecasting a bright future for this robotics sector with strong growth opportunities. This is set to become a reality with piCOBOT, a cleverly equipped plug-and-play add-on for cobot arms that is based on PIAB's signature vacuum technology.

piCOBOT is the new version of the flagship piCOMPACT vacuum generator and boasts adjustable and flexible grippers that can be fitted with a range of different suction cups. PIAB has designed piCOBOT so that it can be mounted onto any cobot arm. "piCOBOT is a true plug-and-play cobot end tool that is genuinely simple to use even for novices. We have selected features that enable energy-optimized and safe operation," says Josef Karbassi, Vice President of PIAB's Automation Division. A solid foundation for decision-making
Business intelligence systems from mesonic help companies make the right operational and strategic decisions. At HANNOVER MESSE 2019, the ERP/PPS developer is unveiling the latest addition to its data analysis product portfolio - WinLine BI.

For over 40 years, mesonic has been one of the leading developers of business software in the German-speaking world. This impressive success is due, at least in part, to its network of trained system partners who carry out sales work and provide customer support on site with the customer. At HANNOVER MESSE 2019, the ERP/PPS software developer is showcasing the new WinLine BI, which was added to its data analysis product portfolio in November 2018. "The HTML-based WinLine BI is fully integrated into our WinLine software programs, meaning users can conduct evaluations that are based on their entire WinLine database," explains Patrick Siegmund, Managing Director of mesonic in Germany. "Not only that, but data from external sources can be imported into WinLine BI and used for evaluations - so the options are virtually limitless," he adds.

mesonic aims to use WinLine BI (Business Intelligence), which is being showcased in Hanover, to open the door to 360° data analysis. A data assistant guides users through the program step by step, making it very easy for them to compile the evaluations they need. As a result, even large amounts of data can reportedly be analyzed extremely easily, after which the results are displayed very clearly on a dashboard in a variety of forms (e.g. as graphs, tables and calendars).
