The EC-Monitor library enables access to all data of an EtherCAT network independently of the controller in order to use it in any target application. This application can process the data locally as an analysis tool, for example, or act as a gateway and transfer the data to remote systems, MES, ERP or service cloud systems via any protocol (OPC-UA, MQTT, etc.). This means that an IoT gateway that is independent of the controller can be implemented safely and easily.
In addition to the process data, the slave statuses, slave error counters and other data are also filtered out of the EtherCAT frames.
The library can be used autonomously and independently of the controller and works with EtherCAT MainDevice controllers from any manufacturer, e.g. Beckhoff, Omron, Bosch-Rexroth, Lenze, ACS Motion Control, acontis, CoDeSys.
The EC-Monitor records all data traffic between the MainDevice and the EtherCAT SubDevice via a TAP device (Test Access Point).
The decoding of the recorded EtherCAT frames is based on the EtherCAT Network Information (ENI) file, which can be generated by any conventional EtherCAT configuration software and is usually also required by the EtherCAT MainDevice. This means that no additional engineering effort is required.
