Expanded polypropylene (EPP) is an ultra lightweight polymer foam based on polypropylene. It is a multifunctional foam, which, in addition to the best specific mechanical properties and an impressive thermal insulation capability, can convince above all through enormous lightweight construction potential. EPP exhibits lowest densities in the range from 20 to 200 kg/m3. Thus, the use of this foam material minimizes the exploitation of fossil resources, since in relation to the component volume 75 to over 95% of the molded part is filled with air by contrast to compact molded parts.
The processing of EPP allows an extraordinary design freedom. EPP consists of polypropylene (PP) and can therefore be combined with PP films and injection molded PP to mono-material parts. Thus, EPP is an enabler for sustainable lightweight parts. In addition, the material is available in countless color variations.
