The PlatinA project aims to develop a high-performance IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technology platform that integrates innovative manufacturing technologies into industrial value creation networks. The platform supports companies in making their production processes more efficient, transparent, and flexible. A central technological building block is the use of Asset Administration Shell (AAS) technology, which enables production systems to be digitally represented and interoperably networked. In this way, a continuous digital representation of machines and processes is created, serving as the foundation for data-driven optimization, automation, and new forms of value creation.
Building on this foundation, the platform opens up new business model approaches, for example through the use of data-driven AI applications, predictive analytics, or highly automated manufacturing processes. A key demonstration and application area is combined fine grinding (KombiFin), which is integrated into the platform as a practical reference scenario and serves to validate the technical implementation as well as to assess industrial applicability.
Furthermore, the project focuses on the digital modeling of complex manufacturing processes, the systematic integration of expert knowledge into digital systems, the development of intelligent assistance systems, and the design and implementation of novel AI solutions. In addition, smart embedded systems are employed—specialized computer systems integrated into machines or production facilities that autonomously perform defined tasks in real time and in a resource-efficient manner. These systems form a central technological foundation for decentralized intelligence and adaptive, networked production environments.
