With Hyperlink, Gasunie is building a major hydrogen network in Germany and this way making a significant contribution – right now already – to ensuring that the country has a secure energy supply.
The construction and conversion of this pioneering, forward-looking transmission infrastructure is already in full swing and will be carried out via several sub-projects between now and 2032. This network will link up all major industrial regions in the north and west of Germany and connect to hydrogen storage facilities and import sites in the Netherlands and Denmark. The users include, in particular, energy-intensive industries like steel and concrete factories, chemical companies, fertiliser manufacturers and hydrogen power plants.
Gasunie is using a combination of existing and new infrastructure for the 1,000km-long Hyperlink hydrogen grid. More than two-thirds of the envisioned network will consist of repurposed natural gas pipelines, enabling us to minimise costs, cut construction times and reduce the impact on people and the environment.
