According to a press release , the Augsburg automation specialists from KUKA will take over the Finnish software company Visual Components. The acquisition gives the robot manufacturer access to the 3D simulation software Visual Components 4.0 , which is specially designed for planning and optimizing modern production environments. The program enables the simulation and visualization of complete production processes as well as their representation in a virtual environment. “The 3D simulation is an important element in the design of the factory of the future,” according to Dr. Till Reuter, CEO of KUKA AG. “Visual components offer innovative solutions in this area.”

The software, which is compatible with CAD applications, enables not only the creation of simple layouts, but also the modeling of individual factory components and the programming of robots. Based on 3D visualization, potential for process optimization should already be available during factory planning. Siemens also sees the benefits of simulations when planning systems and during their ongoing operation. The Group therefore maintains its own center to research and develop applicable solutions.
