A modern society needs female entrepreneurs
Self-employed women are indispensable for a vital and successful German SME sector – this is also the view of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, which has found new supporters for a modern society with the action plan “More Women Entrepreneurs for SMEs”.

Since its publication on May 23, 2023, the action plan “More Women Entrepreneurs for Small and Medium-sized Businesses”, developed by the federal government in collaboration with various institutions, has provided an important platform for exchange and cooperation to empower women in small and medium-sized businesses, skilled trades, start-ups and new ventures. It includes targeted measures to overcome traditional hurdles and encourage women to show their entrepreneurial talents. Initiated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, the action plan started with 32 participants from federal ministries, women's networks, associations, financial institutions and scientific institutions. Now, nine more institutions have joined the action plan at the federal level.
For a larger share of women in the start-up scene
Women are still seriously underrepresented in the start-up scene. Traditional role models and limited access to capital are just some of the barriers that women have to overcome on their path to self-employment. The declared aim of the action plan is therefore to increase the proportion of women in the start-up scene and to offer them the support they need to successfully implement their business ideas.
Women entrepreneurs are indispensable for a vibrant SME sector
Women are indispensable for a vital and successful German SME sector. This is emphasized by Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary and Federal Government Commissioner for the SME Sector: “A good year after the launch of the action plan, we have already implemented many measures and we have grown. Because word has spread that we are serious about appreciating and supporting independent women. In order to make self-employment more attractive for women, we will continue to work hard on specific measures in the areas of start-up and venture capital financing, for example.”
Support from many sides
Deutsche Messe AG is also one of the supporters of the action plan. The 22nd Career Congress FEMWORX will take place as part of HANNOVER MESSE 2025. On Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4, 2025, interested parties can experience two days full of inspiration and encouraging stories at the most successful networking and discussion event for female leadership in the STEM field.
