The UVD robot emits UV-C light that is fatal for bacteria and other microorganisms. As a result, it can finish off up to 99.99% of the germs in its surroundings, as shown by a test at the Odense University Hospital in Denmark and by several independent research laboratories. The cobot moves independently through the rooms of a hospital, spending more time at hotspots to reinforce the effects of the radiation as required. All contact surfaces are irradiated from various angles and at close proximity. To prevent irradiation of people, a tablet placed at the entrance to the room with a movement sensor switches the robot off automatically as soon as someone enters the room.

The smart bacteria killer is made by the Danish manufacturer Blue Ocean Robotics , which has created a subsidiary specifically for it. The Danes won the Innovation and Entrepreneur Award in Robotics and Automation (IERA) for 2019 for their design. The UVD robot should also be appropriate for other areas, such as food production or laboratories.
