The aim of the HiFlecs project, which was completed recently, was to create a wireless connection for industry that facilitates “intelligent, independent, flexible, modular and dynamic communication between sensors and system components”, as we reported in November 2018. The University of Bremen has now published a video that shows in practical terms how the standard works and what opportunities it provides. The suggested areas of application include packaging machines, high-bay warehouses and the automobile industry. The consortium is currently looking for partners in industry to develop the technology.
HiFlecs is not intended to compete with 5G but to complement the new cellular mobile communications standard by meeting specific industry requirements. Companies could use it to set up private networks, retain control of their own data and possibly even save money, reports project manager Professor Armin Dekorsy.
