Every material has very specific characteristics – with their resulting advantages and drawbacks. A company that succeeds in united the advantages of different source materials in a new material enjoys a clear competitive advantage – like Handtmann ELTEKA with its Lauramid® cast polyamide, which can enable components with both lighter weight and more stable shape for sophisticated applications in mechanical engineering. To showcase these characteristics as fully as possible, the plastics specialist is coming to this year’s HANNOVER MESSE with a unique attraction: visitors to the Lightweight Construction Solutions Area in Hall 6 can examine the 3D model of a lightweight robot arm.

The individual components of the model arm, whose original is used in Fanuc painting robots, are made of Lauramid® and presented in the form of a three-dimensional “exploded diagram.” Metal spacers are used merely to aid visualization and are not a component of the original arm, in which the exhibited parts are directly connected to one another. In this presentation, the characteristic “hollow-wrist” design of every Lauramid® component can also be viewed from within. The internal cavities in the design, like the sophisticated outer free form surfaces, are all cast in situ, and no subsequent milling is required with this manufacturing process. In addition, aluminum inserts for high-stress areas of the robot joints are cast directly in the Lauramid® during the production process so that they cannot work loose.
