AI Boom Calls for New Solutions
Delta Electronics has opened a new research and development center in Soest. The investment strengthens the development of energy-efficient power supply solutions for AI data centers and electric mobility, while also aiming to set new standards in sustainability and energy efficiency.

Delta, a global leader in smart, sustainable power electronics solutions, has now announced the official opening of its new research and development center in Soest. With this investment, the company is expanding its innovation capabilities in the field of highly efficient power supply solutions for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data centers, as well as for electric mobility, including 800-VDC server power supplies and 4-in-1 power supply systems for electric vehicles.
With the rapid increase in power density in AI infrastructures, the demands on testing procedures are rising significantly and require expanded and highly specialized laboratory environments. The building constructed at the Soest site, designed to meet the LEED Gold standard, comprises approximately 7,500 square meters of state-of-the-art laboratory space as well as 2,500 square meters of office space and can accommodate up to 250 employees.

Delta currently employs approximately 450 people from 35 countries at its Soest site, which serves as a central center of excellence for highly efficient power supply and charging solutions. The site plays a key role in addressing the rapidly changing and increasingly complex requirements of customers in the EMEA region, particularly in areas that demand highly customized and scalable power supply solutions.
In recent years, Delta has continuously expanded its workforce in Soest. Combined with the growing demands of modern research and development activities, this necessitated an expansion of capacity. The new building will house both existing teams and new employees, with the 250 workstations primarily intended for the current workforce while also enabling further growth.
Delta in Soest also maintains close partnerships with local and international universities, including institutions in Soest, Paderborn, Hanover, and Berlin, as well as Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands and Aalborg University in Denmark. Through these collaborations and regular participation in career fairs, Delta continuously attracts qualified young talent for its growing research and development activities.
“Our customers’ demands are rising rapidly—both technologically and in terms of energy efficiency and scalability,” adds Andreas Kostrzewa, Managing Director of Delta Energy Systems. “With the new development center, we are creating optimal conditions to implement innovations more quickly and further expand our global competitiveness.”
The new research and development center meets the highest energy efficiency standards (EG 40) and is designed to meet the LEED Gold standard. The building features a photovoltaic system with an installed capacity of more than one megawatt, which generates over one million kilowatt-hours of solar power annually, heat pumps, a battery storage system with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts and 5 megawatt-hours, and smart energy solutions.
A particular focus is on utilizing process heat from product testing to heat the building—an example of how technological development and sustainable building operations are consistently integrated. The site also features a DC fast-charging station and more than 60 AC charging points for employees. In addition, Delta promotes sustainable mobility through bicycle leasing and the use of public transportation.
The combination of the existing concrete structural framework and modern hybrid wood construction blends resource conservation with industrial functionality. Architect BDA Peter Völse emphasizes: “This form of hybrid wood construction is rare in an industrial setting and, together with the preservation of the existing structure, sends a strong signal for responsible, future-oriented construction.”
