At Karl-Heinz Häussler GmbH, everything revolves around grinding, kneading and baking. In the company's own bakery village, around 100 employees design, manufacture and sell high-quality wood-fired ovens and stoves, dough and pasta machines, and grain mills. Amateur bakers and professionals alike find guidance and inspiration in baking courses and seminars. Every device marketed by Häussler must be clearly identifiable in accordance with industry regulations. To this end, the company uses the cab products XENO 1 and SQUIX 4, which reliably label type plates, either laser-engraved on aluminium or printed as silver self-adhesive labels.

‘Quality is the best advertising’

A message is written under the roof of the production hall: ‘Quality is the best advertising’. Häussler promises durable products with a sturdy design and high-quality workmanship. According to the company, a ‘Häussler’ will bake for 30 years or more, depending on use and care. These aids for bread, pizza, pastries, pasta, Maultaschen and the like can be found in bakeries and catering establishments, village communities, schools and nurseries, but above all in private households.

Consumer protection, quality assurance and traceability

Ovens, dough and pasta machines must each provide proof of their conformity with the basic safety and health requirements, as well as a type plate. Consumer protection, quality assurance and traceability are important considerations here. Labels provide information about the manufacturer, the model, its year of manufacture, item or serial numbers, for example. The labelling requirements vary. ‘Ovens need a heat-resistant label,’ says authorised signatory Elmar Kornwachs: ‘Dough machines are located in the kitchen and should have a comparatively small type plate.’

Reaching the goal together with cab

Kornwachs first contacted cab Produkttechnik GmbH & Co KG in Karlsruhe in 2022. At that time, the company had a cab A4+ label printer from earlier times in its inventory and had always been satisfied with it. This starting point led to an expanded requirement. Serial numbers were to be displayed on each type plate using DataMatrix codes. ‘For us,’ says Kornwachs, ‘this means being able to clearly assign devices in the warehouse to a customer before delivery.’ Together with cab, a workshop was held in Backdorf. cab was represented by a specialist consultant for label printing and direct marking with a laser. ‘After the initial discussion,’ recalls Kornwachs, ‘it quickly became clear that we would find a good solution together.’ Since then, heat-resistant signs have been produced using the XENO 1 laser marking system, and silver labels using a SQUIX 4 thermal transfer printer.

Fibre lasers are particularly economical

Fibre lasers are particularly economical when precise and durable top-quality marking with a long service life is required. Optimally tailored to the application, they achieve a high degree of efficiency at Häussler. The other advantages are manifold: focusability on the smallest spaces, high processing speeds, no mechanical stress on the metal components. In addition, laser-marked information is resistant to abrasion, light and temperature and is therefore also suitable for outdoor use.

Resistant to mechanical influences, water and solvents

In cab's label printing systems, the combination of intelligent firmware, the streamlined design of the proprietary JScript programming language and a high-performance CPU results in fast processing times. The cablabel S3 labelling software can be used to completely commission, control and monitor the printing process, as well as to create individual label layouts. The SQUIX 4 uses thermal transfer printing. This enables high print resolution, high contrast and sharp edges. Even very small print can be verified perfectly with the naked eye or with scanners. The print is resistant to mechanical influences, water and solvents. Device-specific data remains visible at all times, and codes and numbers can be used during processing and long-term storage.

Greater customer satisfaction

For Elmar Kornwachs, nothing is left to be desired: "If we need a new sign quickly, we can create it ourselves using the cab labelling software. The equipment is low-maintenance. If we have any questions, Mr Bayerle and Mr Buder are there to help us or come to our premises. We have also had good experiences with telephone support. Minor issues were dealt with under warranty to our complete satisfaction." For the future, there are plans to operate both labelling systems with just one design software package; cab is currently beta testing this option.
