Assembly Kit for the High Seas
BERG-idl presents a new crane-free weatherproof assembly system for offshore wind turbines
Share
Although the open sea is an ideal location for wind turbines, there are many problems and issues to overcome in getting them connected to the grid. Assembling large offshore turbines in particular poses huge challenges. Currently these wind turbines are usually erected using large cranes, which are expensive, often have limited availability and are very susceptible to weather conditions. BERG-idl is presenting the Wind Lift Tower, a new, crane-free weatherproof assembly system for 5 MW offshore turbines, at HANNOVER MESSE 2014.
This innovative system requires no cranes and can thus assemble wind turbines safely, quickly and cost-effectively even under difficult weather conditions. It utilizes a support mast with an integrated lifting nacelle that rises with the turbine. The individual elements of the wind turbine are connected to their support mast elements at delivery, providing protection during transport and forming a single static unit for assembly. The new technology is also useful for maintenance work during operation and for turbine dismantling.
