In production environments, even small vulnerabilities can often have major consequences. To identify and close these vulnerabilities on your own before attackers strike, you can have a so-called penetration test (or “pentest”) performed on your systems. One provider of such tests is 8COM, a cybersecurity company and member of SmartFactory-KL.

The pentest experts at 8COM conducted a test at the SmartFactory model plant to identify existing security vulnerabilities and also to hone their own skills in hacking real production modules. The pentest revealed how insecure configurations, unencrypted protocols, overly coarse network segmentation, or default login credentials can make it easier for attackers to gain control of production systems. Now, the researchers at SmartFactory-KL are aware of these vulnerabilities and can take targeted countermeasures in the future to better secure their production.

Through penetration tests for IT and OT environments, 8COM specifically identifies security vulnerabilities—enabling companies to address risks before they escalate into a security incident or production outage. At its Security Operations Center (SOC) in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, 8COM monitors IT and OT networks around the clock. Suspicious activities are detected early, assessed, and attacks can be quickly contained.
