Audi tests battery installation virtually
Training sessions in a virtual environment help optimally prepare technicians for the use of new technologies. Audi uses this method to train its employees how to handle the batteries in electric cars.

Audi AG is providing its service technicians with virtual reality (VR) training for the e-tron, the first series produced vehicle with a fully electric drive system. This helps technicians learn how to work on sensitive component groups in a safe environment. Participants are provided special training on the high-voltage battery installed in the vehicle - from opening and replacing the switch box to replacing the battery module. The approach offers several advantages: technicians receive training before new technologies actually become available, which in turn accelerates time to market.
There are also synergy effects that make the introduction of VR technology cost-effective. Audi uses the batteries’ existing design data to generate virtual images in different environments. The Group is also working on an augmented reality application that will help employees repair vehicle bodies in the future. According to the consulting firm Capgemini , extended reality technologies could become the industrial standard in the next few years.
