Production facilities, in which humans, machines and robots work together closely in a network, must meet high safety and security requirements. The facilities should be safe for the people working there while providing protection against cyber attacks from the outside.

The ROBOSHIELD project involves experts from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, Systems Engineering and Image Evaluation (IOSB). Together with companies from Baden-Wuerttemberg, they aim to solve urgent safety and security issues. They plan to work together to develop processes and tools that enable the implementation of safe and secure modules, systems and applications. ROBOSHIELD will also develop methods and techniques for certification. Last but not least, it is about providing a software platform containing key integrated safety-critical technologies. The Baden-Wuerttemberg Ministry of Economics, Labor and Housing is funding the project to the tune of 3 million euros.
