Bavarian AI center launches operations in Munich
At the new Research and Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI), science and industry in Bavaria can work on specific problems together with researchers.

fortiss is the name of Bavaria's new research institute for software-intensive systems and services. It focuses on conducting research into secure AI methods and the development of software solutions that control and monitor business-critical processes and systems. They include embedded decision-making and control systems such as software for autonomous, interacting vehicle fleets, autonomous service drones and flight taxis, cloud-based production facilities, energy and supply infrastructures, and new digital services for public administration.
The newly opened center is starting with the flagship projects "AI Potential" and "Robust AI". AI Potential focuses on brainstorming and the potential of AI for products, business models and services, as well as on building prototypes and training courses for selected AI technologies. Robust AI aims to develop reliable, secure and self-learning software systems that make timely, informed decisions in instable environments or in unpredictable situations while complying with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation.
