Surface properties are becoming increasingly important in nearly all branches of industry, but very few input materials have the desired surface properties for further processing. For example, it may be necessary for a material to be formable but have a hard surface, or a fabric may need to have high tensile strength and good dying characteristics but shed water. Special plasma methods are used to achieve this in production. Activation, cleaning or coating treatment can be used to obtain the desired target surface properties while retaining the bulk properties of the material. L.C. Maan Engineering, from this year’s Partner Country the Netherlands, is showing an innovation in this area at HANNOVER MESSE 2014.

The unique pretreatment method developed by the Dutch company is a high-tech application for atmospheric enhancement of the adhesion properties of thin films. It is particularly suitable for the production of printed electronics, flexible circuits and light-sensitive plastics. The innovative treater, which enables extremely homogeneous and high-quality surface modifications, is currently being used by Solliance to develop a pilot production line for organic solar cells.
