The event also examines the latest social challenges, including the mobility revolution and the climate crisis as well as the answers innovative lightweight construction can offer. LightCon consists of a diverse exhibition complemented by a dynamic conference. Papers for the LightCon conference can now be submitted through 31 January 2020.

How can we achieve more climate-friendly mobility? When will we see the first zero-emissions airplane? What are the best materials for air taxis? And when will they finally invent the climate-neutral car of the future? Lightweight construction may not be the only answer to these questions, but it is certainly a key element. After all, lightweight construction conserves energy, reduces the level of emissions and helps create more economical applications and products.

At LightCon, running from 23 to 24 June 2020 in Hannover, Germany, the focus will be on exactly these issues – the major issues of our time – as well as on the specifics of innovative manufacturing processes, new materials and hybrid material solutions for every conceivable user industry. The spotlight will be on the applications, themselves, with the best lightweight construction solutions to be highlighted across materials and technologies. This new platform comes at exactly the right time, with lightweight construction becoming more and more important. The Federal Ministry of Economics recently declared that 280 million euros in public funding will be invested in lightweight construction in Germany over the next three years.

"LightCon is our contribution to promoting networking and new thinking," remarked Maria Christina Mihm, LightCon Project Director at Deutsche Messe. "The use and processing of innovative materials and their many hybrid options offer great opportunities across all industries," she added. Over the two-day event, top-class speakers from industry, research and associations will provide exclusive insights into cutting-edge lightweight construction. The LightCon conference and exhibition are closely interlinked. The topics at the keynotes and panels will be followed by best-practice demonstrations and application examples in the exhibition area.

The Call for Papers for the LightCon conference has now been put out and runs until 31 January. The focus is on innovative material solutions, new output-optimized production processes, sustainability and recycling, key technologies and materials for contemporary mobility concepts and progressive approaches in the construction industry. The conference language at LightCon is English.

LightCon is being organized by Deutsche Messe, as an experienced producer of world-leading trade shows for industrial technology. The content of the conference program will be designed by founding partner Composites United, one of the world’s biggest networks for fiber-based, multi-material lightweight construction, together with associated partners.
