According to a questionnaire by the digital association Bitkom, one of every two companies avoids innovations for data protection reasons, which makes it difficult for many to maintain their operations during the corona pandemic.30 Sep 2020
For example, due to data protection regulations, companies used aids that facilitate working from home minimally or not at all. In addition, for many companies such regulations resulted in little or no advancement of technological innovations. Only 20 percent of the companies surveyed had fully implemented the DS-GVO (European General Data Protection Regulation). Six percent have just started implementation. For 74 percent, the greatest challenge is ongoing legal uncertainty due to DS-GVO rules. For 56 percent, new and innovative projects failed because of the DS-GVO – due to either no direct specifications or design ambiguities. Almost 90 percent believe that the DS-GVO is practically impossible to implement in full.
