Emerson, a global leader in automation, has now expanded its DeltaV automation platform with the release of version 16 of its Distributed Control System (DCS) and integrated safety system. According to Emerson, DeltaV Version 16.LTS offers software-defined capabilities that reduce automation costs, improve operational insight and data transparency across the enterprise, and strengthen cybersecurity. This Long-Term Support (LTS) version combines new, field-proven features into a single release.

“Future-proof technology selection for the coming years”

“The pace of technological innovation and the rise of industrial AI, combined with growing computing demands at the control level, have created a tipping point that requires a new approach for companies to unify operational data and scale automation across the enterprise,” said Nathan Pettus, president of Emerson’s Process Systems and Solutions business. “DeltaV Version 16.LTS is the next step in delivering the software-defined operating platform for enterprises that meets these requirements and enables unlimited flexibility and a future-proof technology choice for years to come.”

Greater flexibility for automation systems

With improved modularity and flexibility, DeltaV Version 16.LTS enables the efficient deployment and expansion of automation systems. This includes access to the DeltaV IQ Controller, a fault-tolerant, modular, software-defined controller deployed in a server-based environment and capable of handling the most demanding process control applications. In addition, Emerson’s flexible subscription model, the DeltaV Flex System, offers companies the full functionality of the DeltaV DCS while allowing them to pay for usage over time and scale quickly based on market conditions.

High-speed connectivity optimizes operations

DeltaV Version 16.LTS also integrates intelligence through more seamless data and I/O connectivity via next-generation field networks. This is designed to provide deeper process insights for the optimization and maintenance of plants and operations. Native support for PROFINET over Ethernet-APL on the DeltaV PK controller enables high-speed connectivity with field devices in demanding environments across process and hybrid manufacturing operations.

Unimpeded flow of contextual data

The DeltaV Continuous Historian Elite software leverages the power of Emerson’s AspenTech product portfolio to provide an expanded data foundation for enterprise-wide optimization. Continuous Historian Elite creates seamless connectivity between the process control system and enterprise data management solutions, enabling the unimpeded flow of contextual data across the enterprise to support analytics and AI.

Operational data available enterprise-wide

Enhancements to DeltaV Live also provide an expanded, unified view of operations by streaming data through the DeltaV Edge environment to support enterprise-level decision-making and situational awareness. The new DeltaV Live Enterprise View provides secure read access to displays outside the control room, enabling the delivery of data from the control room to enterprise customers for trend analysis and continuous improvement of operational processes. Improvements also include web application integration, which allows users to natively integrate third-party software applications—such as optimization tools—into the DeltaV control interface.
