Data processing should be attack-proof
The TU Ilmenau in Thuringia is conducting research into a fail-safe and attack-proof processing system for digital data streams. It intends to transfer the results to industrial applications.

The reDesigN (Resilience by Design for Internet of Things Data Platforms) project involves research and industry working together on a robust, digital communication system for applications in the Internet of Things (IoT). In addition to the Technical University of Ilmenau , the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Systems Technology and two Thuringian companies are also involved in the project. The 2.2 million euro project is scheduled to run for three years and will receive a total of 1.8 million euros in funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The first step will be to tailor the solution to suit the needs of a utility company. The system should also be capable of ensuring energy supply in the event of unforeseen operating events such as a breakdown in regular communication. Ultimately, however, the system should also provide more security in other areas, especially in Industry 4.0’s networked production systems, where cyberattack threats have become part of everyday operation.
