The solutions of the Nuremberg-based company Baumüller are considered to be groundbreaking after more than 30 years of product experience in direct drive technology. Undeniable advantages of this drive solution are the reduced maintenance requirements due to the elimination of gearboxes or hydraulic systems, the simpler assembly and logistics due to the smaller number of components, as well as the high efficiency and productivity. In addition, the torque motors can be used to achieve a very rigid control of the drive trains.
With the newly introduced torque motor DST3, Baumüller GmbH aims to continue the success story of the DST series and offer its customers optimized power density and improved dynamics with optimal smooth running. Other features mentioned by the company include a reduced space requirement, optimization of weight and resources, as well as increased productivity and maximum precision.
An increase in dynamics of up to 50 percent compared to the DST2 should make it possible to shorten cycle times, as faster acceleration and deceleration is possible. This can be advantageous for injection molding machines or presses, for example, since the increased dynamics allow the clamping unit to be opened and closed faster and in a more controlled manner.
As with the DST2 product family, DST3 motors are scalable and adaptable to customer requirements. The size 135 covers a speed range of up to 2,000 revolutions per minute. As with the DST2, the DST3 is designed to allow for mechanical adjustments, such as thrust bearings, hollow shafts, solid shafts, blind shafts, gears, flange or foot mounting, and more, to ensure perfect adaptation to the respective machine application. According to Baumüller, the motor also has a very robust design.
