For over 50 years, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has been developing, manufacturing and selling a varied range of drive technology and is now one of the world's leading full-service suppliers in the industry. Besides conventional standard drives, NORD notably supplies application-specific concepts and solutions, some of which are highly specialized, such as explosion-protected systems and energy-efficient drives. One example of the latter is undoubtedly a newly launched synchronous motor.
According to NORD, its next-generation energy-efficient permanent magnet synchronous motor reduces losses even further compared to the current IE4 series. The unventilated smooth-surfaced motor delivers a high level of efficiency over a wide torque range - a level that in a number of cases is significantly above efficiency class IE5 - which means it is ideal for cost-effective operation in the partial load range. What's more, the new motor’s high power density means it can have an extremely compact design. The first market-ready models will have power ranges from 0.25 to 1.1 kilowatts, with a continuous torque from 1.6 to 4.8 newton meters and a speed range from 0 to 2,100 rpm. However, more sizes and power ratings are also to be gradually added. Thanks to the optional nsd tupH surface treatment and IP69K protection, the new motor also offers a corrosion-resistant, washdown design, making it easy to clean and perfect for hygiene-sensitive and harsh environments. The IE5+ can be combined with NORD gear units and drive electronics in a modular system and will be available in time for HANNOVER MESSE 2020, according to the manufacturer.
