E.ON is working on self-regulating smart grids
Energy costs are an ongoing cause of concern for manufacturing companies with energy-hungry machines. Big data can help get these costs under control.

The energy company E.ON will cooperate with the American technology company Sight Machine in the future to increase the efficiency of machinery. Sight Machine’s IoT analytics platform collects and processes data from networked machines and equipment to accurately determine and manage energy consumption. The two partners are now developing digital solutions to optimize energy consumption in European industrial companies.
At the same time, E.ON is also researching power grids that use artificial intelligence to detect faults. The Group has already developed an analytical model for this purpose that combines internal data (such as resource and load data) with external information (weather, lightning frequency, salinity level in the air). This should make it possible to recognize recurring patterns in the occurrences of faults and failures . According to E.ON, the utility company has already seen an improvement of 30% in the first practical applications.
