If the tech oracles are right, we have a very smart future ahead of us. “Industry 4.0” and “smart factory” are everyday expressions, and not for nothing is this year’s HANNOVER MESSE theme “Integrated Industry – NEXT STEPS.” Everywhere, efforts are being made to network processes as flexibly as possible, and each innovation brings us one step closer to this goal. HARTING Deutschland is exhibiting exactly this in their Smart Factory at HANNOVER MESSE 2014.

According to HARTING, their Smart Factory represents a new technological leap forward and can do significantly more than its predecessor last year, largely as a result of improved condition monitoring within processes. Last year the transport containers were already equipped with RFID transponders that were able to recognize whether the task had been completed or if parts or work steps were still lacking. Now the functionality of the containers has been expanded to include a temperature sensor. When a defined temperature threshold is reached, it triggers an alarm to prevent subsequent containers from being damaged by the high temperature.
