With the new G20 Ethernet motor control module, Pepperl+Fuchs is expanding its portfolio to include a powerful and flexibly scalable solution for controlling motorized rollers in conveyor technology. The Ethernet G20 system consists of the Ethernet G20 controller with up to four lines, each comprising 15 G20 motor control modules, with each motor control module offering connections for up to two motorized rollers. This innovative system allows for the flexible control of up to 120 motorized rollers (MDRs) via a single IP address. Advanced diagnostic data—such as current consumption, voltage levels, or runtime per MDR—provide detailed insights into the system’s condition, thereby enabling preventive or even predictive maintenance measures.

Scalable System for All Conveyor Technology Applications

For each module, it can be decided individually whether it will operate in ZPA mode (Zero Pressure Accumulation) or via the controller (PLC). This allows different requirements to be accommodated within a single conveyor line. The combined use of both modes ensures optimal utilization of the control system: While simple conveying tasks can be controlled decentrally and particularly quickly within the module itself, the control system remains reserved for complex tasks. Diagnostic data such as temperature and current consumption per module can be retrieved both in the control system and via the REST API interface.

Technology-neutral and future-proof solution

As a multiprotocol device, the G20 Ethernet motor control module supports the common fieldbus protocols PROFINET and EtherNet/IP. Additionally, REST API and OPC UA enable seamless IIoT communication. Since both 24-volt and 48-volt motor drives are supported, a switch can be made at any time by simply adjusting the supply voltage. In addition to the Ethernet version, the G20 portfolio includes other technologies such as ASi, IO-Link, or standalone ZPA modules. This allows the right solution to be selected for every application—regardless of existing infrastructure or individual customer requirements.

Easy Integration and Robust Design

The compact motor control modules of the G20 series can be integrated into the conveyor line’s mounting rail without additional tools: All cables are already part of the module, which reduces installation effort and potential sources of error. Clearly visible LEDs indicate the general module status as well as the status of all sensors and motors, providing a quick overview of the application. With an IP67 protection rating and a temperature range of minus 25 to plus 70 degrees Celsius, the module is also designed for demanding industrial environments. Four freely configurable digital inputs and outputs offer additional flexibility.
