Rockwell Automation, which claims to be the world’s largest company for industrial automation and digital transformation, has now announced the availability of FactoryTalk ResilientEdge, a next-generation execution architecture designed for autonomous manufacturing operations in highly automated environments.
FactoryTalk ResilientEdge is based on FactoryTalk Optix and is integrated across Rockwell Automation’s entire portfolio, including the Plex Manufacturing Execution System (MES). The solution provides a central execution layer for machines, employees, and production systems. The platform offers low-latency, schedulable execution at the edge, as well as cloud capabilities for analytics, AI training, and enterprise orchestration. The combination of edge and cloud is designed to ensure continuous operation even in the event of a connectivity failure.
The Unified Execution Model
FactoryTalk ResilientEdge transforms advanced manufacturing capabilities into a standardized operational infrastructure by unifying plant models, connectivity, execution, and intelligence within a single framework. FactoryTalk ResilientEdge offers users a wide range of innovative features, including a common production model, native and interoperable connectivity, real-time edge execution with embedded business logic, cloud-scale analytics, and AI. The result is an execution system that bridges the gap between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) and significantly reduces the complexity of deploying and evolving a modern manufacturing operation.
“At a time when 95 percent of manufacturers are driving AI and machine learning, FactoryTalk ResilientEdge enables a new class of manufacturing,” said Anthony Murphy, Vice President of Product Management at Rockwell Automation. “Manufacturers can expand automation, intelligence, and autonomy across their entire operation while maintaining the cost-effectiveness and scalability of the cloud, enabling them to achieve faster deployments and reduce their total cost of ownership.”
AI-Enabled Autonomy
Modern automation initiatives require reliable execution, a structured data flow, and a scalable architecture as the foundation for advanced analytics and AI initiatives. FactoryTalk ResilientEdge provides a stable execution layer that supports advanced analytics, AI, and closed-loop optimization at the plant level without compromising performance.
Secure, Interoperable, and Scalable
FactoryTalk ResilientEdge is designed to help manufacturers modernize their operations by improving resilience, optimizing for Rockwell Automation ecosystems, and remaining open and interoperable in heterogeneous production environments. The company states that the security, interoperability, and scalability of the new offering demonstrate the resilience of Rockwell’s MES solutions.
Faster Deployment and Lower Lifecycle Costs
Thanks to reduced integration complexity, centralized monitoring, and support for modular scalability, FactoryTalk ResilientEdge is designed to lower lifecycle costs and accelerate deployment. FactoryTalk ResilientEdge features can be deployed as needed and support companies pursuing a phased modernization strategy.
