Up to six experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML and three IoT experts from Deutsche Telekom now plan to jointly develop IoT applications and bring them to market maturity. They are focusing on processes in the manufacturing industry as well as in the logistics and aviation industries. As an example of possible applications, the Managing Director of Open-IoT-Labs, Michael ten Hompel , mentions a service button developed jointly with Würth Industrie Service, which can be used to automate the re-ordering of C parts such as screws and nuts.

The focus is on the radio technology Narrowband IoT. Telekom is already making this narrowband technology available throughout Germany and the Netherlands , and other European countries are expected to follow suit in the foreseeable future. As NB IoT is designed for mass use, the relevant solutions offer virtually unlimited scalability.
