German Edge Cloud (GEC), in collaboration with its technology partner PHOENIQS, is expanding its ONCITE Digital Production System (DPS) with specialized Industrial AI Agents. The AI applications are designed not only to support skilled workers in analysis and decision-making but also to independently initiate tasks and processes within defined parameters. This makes the ONCITE DPS the technical foundation for a so-called “Agentic Factory,” in which humans and AI agents collaborate along industrial processes.

To kick things off, GEC is introducing three specialized applications. PARETO supports root-cause analyses and shift handoffs. DAEDALUS focuses on digital industrial engineering and knowledge management. SENTINEL monitors quality, energy, and production metrics and is designed to detect critical deviations.

The agents draw on production and corporate data as well as stored industrial knowledge. To this end, the ONCITE DPS integrates machine, process, and quality data with applications and other information. Existing MES, ERP, and shop floor systems can be integrated. This is intended to enable agent-based applications to be gradually added even in established production environments.

A key element of the concept is the combination of automated actions and human oversight. Governance rules, roles, and permissions determine which information the agents can access and which actions they are authorized to perform. This allows specialists to retain control over decisions and processes, while the AI can independently handle clearly defined tasks.

The Industrial AI Agents run on the PHOENIQS AI Platform. To this end, PHOENIQS is currently establishing its own cloud region with multiple data center locations in Germany. The provider is committed to sovereign operations, in which companies retain control over their data and models.

The Industrial AI Agents were publicly unveiled for the first time on September 10, 2026, at the event “AI on the Shop Floor—From Idea to Application” at MEGLA in Dortmund. With this approach, GEC and PHOENIQS aim to demonstrate the next step from data-driven production toward a more agent-based industrial workflow.
