IONOS has now unveiled its storage solution, HiDrive Next. The newly designed online storage service is based on the open-source software Nextcloud and succeeds the classic HiDrive product. It is specifically aimed at freelancers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as private customers.
The guiding principle of HiDrive Next is “Simplicity first.” With a clean, minimalist interface featuring the familiar IONOS look, the tool is designed to be usable right away without a long learning curve.
Access is available across platforms via a modern web application, desktop programs for Windows (Windows 10 and later), macOS, and Linux, as well as mobile apps for iOS (version 13 and later) and Android. The mobile apps also offer smart everyday features: an integrated document scanner with optical character recognition (OCR) for searchable PDFs, as well as an automatic camera upload for automatically backing up photos and videos in the background.
HiDrive Next is designed to provide users with maximum transparency and digital sovereignty: The source code of the Nextcloud platform is publicly available on GitHub, and the product is operated in 100 percent GDPR-compliant ISO 27001-certified data centers by IONOS in Germany.
Data transfers are encrypted by default via SSL with up to 256-bit encryption. A digital recycle bin for easily restoring deleted files, automatic file versioning, and password-protected sharing links with optional expiration dates round out the security concept. Via an integrated WebDAV interface, HiDrive Next can be seamlessly integrated as a network drive into existing local infrastructures, routers, or backup systems. All common file formats can be opened directly in the cloud; editing Office documents is planned for the future via an optional add-on.
