German government funds project for green hydrogen
As part of Germany’s National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS), the economic stimulus package will provide Siemens Energy with funding of 8.23 million euros for a green hydrogen venture in Chile, where the company is developing the Power-to-X project “Haru Oni” that uses the hydrogen produced from wind power and the CO2 captured from the air to produce a climate-neutral fuel.

It is the world's first integrated commercial plant for the production of such fuel. “German companies are worldwide leaders in hydrogen technologies,” says Germany’s Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier. “‘Haru Oni’ is a good example of this, because it shows that modern technologies ‘Made in Germany’ can produce green hydrogen and its derivatives sustainably – in this case in Chile. ‘Haru Oni’ applies innovative technologies and processes from the laboratory directly, with the goal of implementation on an industrial scale.”
