Germany’s Fast Charging Act sets stage for 1,000 new hubs
Germany’s Federal Council recently passed an act to provide a comprehensive fast-charging infrastructure for pure battery electric vehicles. The law, “SchnellLG”, provides Germany’s Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) with the legal basis to build out Germany’s national network of fast-charging points.

The network will add 1,000 fast-charging hubs that can meet demand – at peak times and in previously uneconomical locations – as the number of registered electric vehicles increases.
SchnellLG includes a first tendering process to ensure the efficient development of the network for long- and medium-distance traffic. The tender, which supplements numerous funding programs of the BMVI, starts in summer 2021.
