When metal components subject to high stress are treated to increase their reliability and wear resistance, conventional hardening processes normally require high temperatures and the corresponding energy consumption. The modern alternative is called plasma nitriding, and is a thermo-chemical heat treatment process that improves materials' fatigue strength and corrosion resistance in a particularly environmentally friendly manner. The Dr. Böhm company from Chemnitz, Germany is presenting a new generation of plasma nitriding systems that offers outstanding results with low energy input at HANNOVER MESSE 2014.

This technology now also lets small and medium-sized companies use plasma nitriding cost effectively for surface hardening. The systems are built with the help of modern CAD and FEM software, which can quickly develop a tailored solution for every application. Together with its partner companies, Dr. Böhm also offers systems for activating and cleaning plastics and metals using atmospheric plasma processing. Gluing, printing or coating are often only possible after this type of treatment.
