The cellcentric team, based in Kirchheim/Teck, develops, produces and markets fuel cell systems for use in heavy-duty commercial vehicles as its main focus, as well as for other non-automotive applications. The company is a joint venture between Daimler Truck AG and the Volvo Group, founded in 2021. The goal of cellcentric is to become a leading global manufacturer of fuel cells and thus contribute to climate-neutral and sustainable transportation by 2050. To achieve this, the Kirchheim-based company can draw on the expertise and extensive experience gained from several decades of fuel cell development work by the two founding companies.

As part of their efforts, the Swabians have now presented a virtual model of their NextGen fuel cell system for heavy-duty long-distance transport as a sustainable solution for CO2-neutral mobility in global road transport. The study provides an outlook on the dimensions and design of the new generation of fuel cell systems. With a total weight of less than 400 kilograms, the new system is designed for conventional diesel engine compartments with a cubic capacity of 13 liters. The new single-packaging fuel cell system combines high efficiency and performance with market-leading TCO (total cost of ownership). In addition, according to its developers, the system is characterized by higher operating temperatures and lower cooling requirements.
