Heavy-Duty Electric Charging
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) will showcase metrological solutions for megawatt charging systems in electric truck transport at HANNOVER MESSE 2026. The goal is to ensure reliable consumer protection during fast charging. The exhibition will be complemented by a stage program focusing on mobility, digital metrology, and AI.

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), based in Braunschweig, will be presenting at this year’s HANNOVER MESSE at the booth of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) in Hall 11. There, the PTB will introduce a promising topic in e-mobility: the fast charging of trucks.
Electric mobility is gaining momentum not only in passenger cars. The next major transformation in the mobility sector is already on the horizon: the electrification of heavy-duty transport. To quickly charge the large batteries of electric trucks, charging stations will need to deliver significantly higher charging capacities in the future—so-called megawatt charging. The PTB aims to ensure reliable consumer protection in this area through its metrological expertise.
In addition to the exhibit on display, the PTB is planning two presentations as part of the stage program at the BMWE booth. The first presentation, “The Future of Mobility: Rethinking Mobility for a Strong Industrial Hub in Germany,” will kick off a panel discussion on radically new approaches to the future of climate-neutral and autonomous mobility, as well as innovative future mobility scenarios. The second presentation, “Digital Certificates and AI: Less Bureaucracy, More Efficiency and Innovation in the Tech Industry,” addresses the digitization of measurement technology as a key driver of innovation and competitiveness. The focus is on practical examples of digital certificates and forward-looking applications of artificial intelligence as the key to modern regulation and a strong, innovative industrial hub in Germany.
