The XLamp XD16 , whose commercial availability Cree has now announced, is an LED lamp characterized by a record-breaking lumen density of over 280 lm/mm². System-level optical loss is three times lower than that of competing technologies. The LED is based on the company’s NX technology platform , which is designed for greater efficiency, a wider range of applications – including industrial applications – and process-reliable SMD fabrication . The NX system should above all radically reduce the error susceptibility during reflow soldering.
In a tiny housing, the ceramic-based LED combines low optical crosstalk with unprecedented thermal contact and easy system fabrication. This makes new designs possible for a variety of lighting applications, such as color matching and street lighting as well as portable or industrial applications. One example is lighter and smaller mountaineering headlamps with improved light beam guidance.
