What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM?

My journey into STEM started when I was a young girl and was shaped by a deep curiosity about the world around me and a desire to solve problems, to fix things. I them realized that training in STEM would offer me the tools to not only understand the world, fix things around me but also challenge me in the best possible way. It’s a field that is constantly evolving and has the power to address some of society's most pressing challenges. The ability to make an impact through innovation, research, and collaboration is what drives me every day. I did not have strong STEM role models around me, but I was surrounded by strong women who showed me the importance of resilience, ambition, and leadership and not to be afraid to go and get what you want, and it was very inspiring.

What challenges have you overcome on your career path so far?

I have been fortunate to start my career in an environment that is very open and actively foster gender equity. As I progressed in my career, I came to realize that the biggest challenges were often the ones I placed on myself. For example, I spent years struggling with work-life balance, feeling as though I had to excel in every area of my life all at once—professionally, personally, and everything in between and I fought to achieve the perfect balance, and I was comparing a lot with other women that I felt had it all. I now understand that perfection isn't always possible, and balance means something different for everyone, and comparison is what puts a lot of unnecessary stress. Another internal challenge I faced was imposter syndrome. Despite my accomplishments, there were times I doubted my own worth and questioned whether I truly deserved my place in the field. Over time, I've learned that these feelings are not unique to me—they're part of the process. By recognizing and addressing these self-imposed pressures, I've been able to embrace my strengths and focus more on growth than perfection.

What message would you like to pass on to young women who want to pursue a career in STEM?

My message is simple: don’t let anyone or anything make you believe you don’t belong. You are more than capable, and your unique perspective is invaluable. Embrace your own style, strengths, and intuition—be authentic. The world needs women in STEM who bring their whole selves to the table, not a version of someone else. It’s also important to remember that your journey won’t always be linear, and that’s okay, do not put too much pressure on yourself. Surround yourself with supportive mentors, networks, and role models, men or women who can help guide you, and never be afraid to ask questions or seek help when needed.

Finally, be confident in your abilities. Trust your instincts, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to take risks. The world needs more women in STEM, and you have the power to make a meaningful impact. Stay passionate, stay resilient, and have fun!
