With the new generation of its proven distance sensors of the OGD series, Essen-based ifm electronic GmbH combines the advantages of the numerous predecessor variants in just one device. This allows users to optimise for either high measuring distance, maximum precision or high measuring frequency by simply selecting the operating mode themselves. This not only enables optimal adaptation to a multitude of applications, it also provides a better overview of the portfolio due to the reduced number of variants.

This improved overview should also make it easier to decide on the newly added option of choosing between plastic and stainless steel housings. The millimetre-precise detection of distance values, on the other hand, remains unchanged. This makes the distance sensors of the OGD series ideal helpers for positioning objects or checking presence, for example in quality control. In addition, the reflection values can be used, for example, for identification in sorting tasks. The application areas are wide: whether handling technology, robotics, assembly automation, conveyor technology or logistics: according to ifm, the new OGDs are universal problem solvers in automation.
