Making light work of engine production
Laser Zentrum Hannover e. V. has now unveiled the new, enhanced R7 generation of its internal processing laser head, designed to make lightweight engine production even more efficient.

Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH) is an institute specializing in optical components and systems, optical production technologies and biomedical photonics. Its scientists and mechanical engineers work closely together to devise innovative approaches to challenges from various sectors. This extends from developing components for specific laser systems through to process developments for a wide range of laser applications in areas such as medical technology and lightweight automotive assembly. The latter also stands to benefit from the latest generation of the LZH internal processing laser head (IBK), which has been developed to prepare the cylinder surfaces of lightweight aluminum engine blocks for lining with a wear-resistant coating.
The new optimized version of the IBK is the result of close cooperation with users in the field. One consequence of this is that process monitoring sensor technology is now fully integrated into the R7 generation. Not only that but the system handling has also been made even easier than for the previous versions, and the radiation path has been optimized to prevent soiling.
