The Bavarian Hydrogen Council , founded at the Energie Campus in Nuremberg, aims to make the state of Bavaria a forerunner in hydrogen technology. MAN Energy Solutions (MAN ES) has joined the council as a prominent member and will collaborate with other technology partners, such as electrolysis technology company H-TEC SYSTEMS , to support the development of new PEM electrolyzers in the multimegawatt range. As part of a new corporate strategy, MAN ES acquired 40% of the shares in H-TEC SYSTEMS back in March.

Part of this strategic realignment is the decarbonization of global shipping, whereby MAN ES is focusing on the production of synthetic fuels and gases from renewable energy sources using Power-to-X technologies. The resulting ‘e-fuels’ allow renewable energy to be used even without a power grid. According to Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN ES, the production of hydrogen constitutes an interface in the coupling of energy, transportation, and heating sectors. The company also recently announced its plans to work with partners to develop and construct industrially scalable hydrogen storage systems.
