More and more people are training as IT specialists
IT specialists are in demand. So it’s no surprise that the number of training contracts increased last year by almost 2,000 to 15,000. But the proportion of women in this area is below 8%.

This comes from the rankings for training professions 2018 , published by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). According to the institute, the results underline the demand in the economy for well-trained IT specialists. The career of IT specialist is now in seventh place in its class and has climbed two places compared to last year. The most training contracts last year were signed in the occupations of office management executive (27,912), retail executive (23,742) and vehicle mechatronic engineer (23,418). However, the BIBB stresses that the number of contracts does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the popularity of the careers among young people: the choice of training always depends on the availability of training places.
An apprenticeship as an IT specialist is possible either with a focus on application development or system integration, explains the Federal Employment Agency (BA). The training takes three years.
