The document “Actors in the Industrial Data Economy”, published by the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) as a “living paper”, is intended to show the full range of projects in various industrial sectors that deal with the data economy for the first time. The focus of the 60-page data room-based X-projects is on German-speaking countries. However, the document also covers a number of important European projects.

The goal: transparency

The stated aim of this publication is to create transparency in a research and market environment that is still new and confusing. According to VDMA, the atlas offers the opportunity to network, learn from each other and make important technical and content-related decisions. Hartmut Rauen, Deputy Managing Director of VDMA, says: “As VDMA, it is important to us to bring together the various players in the sense of a uniform and compatible approach in order to set standards and pave the way for the data economy. We ourselves are involved in many X-projects and recognized the potential of the data economy early on, which makes us and our industry a pioneer.”

Constantly new relevant X-projects

The atlas is the result of extensive research, does not claim to be complete and is to be updated at least once a year in the future. The background to this is that the data economy is growing rapidly and new relevant X-projects are constantly emerging.

X-projects for many industry sectors

Manufacturing-X is an umbrella term for the manufacturing industry that combines a whole range of different X-projects. The document presented provides an overview of, among other things, the mechanical and plant engineering, energy, aerospace and mobility sectors, and shows which players are active in which projects, along with the relevant contact persons. The document also allows users to search for specific projects, be it by region, industry or keyword.

How data can develop its value

In the data economy, data is the new gold for companies. Every company has a wealth of data. Data can develop its value when it is traded or exchanged as a package. The industrial data room offers an environment in which data can be transmitted securely and automatically. The data provider always retains control over their data and determines what happens to it.
