There are machines and systems where special situations and operating modes may arise in which work must be carried out in the danger zone. Particularly in the case of maintenance, servicing, commissioning or setting up machines and systems, certain additional measures are often required in order to be able to work safely even in these situations with increased risk. It is precisely for such situations that DOLD, an internationally active family-owned company based in Furtwangen, Germany, develops, manufactures and sells high-quality components and complete solutions for safe automation in plant and mechanical engineering. At HANNOVER MESSE 2022, the Black Forest company will celebrate the premiere of its new RE 6909 enabling and operating unit from the SAFEMASTER series.
The RE 6909 enabling and operating unit, which can be connected by cable, allows the operator to bypass certain safety measures, such as safety gates, by selecting the operating mode during setup. DOLD relies on a three-stage function for this. In the middle position, the enabling device releases certain hazardous movements under additional precautions. However, if the operator releases the device or specifically pushes it through, the system switches off in a safety-oriented manner. Due to its ergonomic design, the RE 6909 is said to ensure fatigue-free operation, and DOLD also says the modular design offers many additional functions such as a stop command device, key switch and additional buttons. In addition, the rugged handheld control unit has IP65 certification, making it suitable for use in harsh environments.
