The Swabian manufacturer Balluff is offering two new sensor models: the multifunctional sensor BOS 21M ADCAP (advanced capabilities) works with red light and offers the following modes: background suppression, energetic light sensor, reflection light barrier and through-beam sensor. The BOS 21M HPL, on the other hand, is a laser light sensor that offers two different types of background suppression and is primarily designed for detection tasks. Both sensors allow users to change from one mode to another during operation.

Both models also provide measured values for their light reflectance via IO link . The sensor’s degree of contamination can thus be monitored, even in a trend analysis if desired. The operator can thus recognize when the sensors require cleaning. Balluff has also integrated a function on the BOS 21M to monitor the power of the transmitting LED. The result is displayed as traffic lights and alerts the operator about an impending functional deficiency or malfunction due to aging LEDs.

Balluff is one of the family-run businesses that stand to benefit the most from digitization and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The company is thus planning to expand its headquarters in Neuhausen a.d.F. as of 2019 . Balluff will present with its complete current sensor technology portfolio at the Hannover Messe 2018 trade fair and showcase a whole series of new products, including 16 compact industrial cameras. The family-run business can be found in Hall 9, Stand F53; Balluff is also involved in the joint PROFIBUS & PROFINET International stand (Hall 9, Stand D68).
