According to Osnabrück Mayor Wolfgang Griesert, the over 26,000 m² site will be occupied from 2021, initially by the Artificial Intelligence research department of Osnabrück University and Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. A number of rooms will also be available for startups. The listed ‘Ringlokschuppen’, a former railway company building, has been empty for decades and has belonged to the city since 2013. The Aloys and Brigitte Coppenrath Foundation , which has already invested €5 million and wants to set up its ‘ Coppenrath Innovation Center ’ at the hub, is backing the project as an investor.

The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) will house its recently founded Lower Saxony laboratory in the new center, where it will conduct research into, in particular, the expanded perception of complex environments or situations. Over the next few years, the total number of scientists at the Osnabrück site is planned to increase to approx. 80.
