Porsche and Boeing have signed a Declaration of Intent under which they want to develop the market for “Premium Urban Air Mobility” together. The automobile manufacturer is therefore taking another step towards becoming a mobility brand – and, according to the company’s own information, that could include the third dimension in the long term. An international team has been set up initially to deal with the various aspects in this area. The companies also want to work together to develop a concept for an electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically. Back in 2018, a study by Porsche Consulting analyzed the feasibility of vertical mobility. According to this, aircraft operation in the biggest cities of the world could begin as soon as 2025.
An analysis by the consultants Roland Berger concludes that work is currently being carried out on around 100 projects for autonomous Urban Air Mobility services worldwide. In most cases, the stakeholders come from various companies, as the ecosystem is complex and the challenges are large. Of the projects identified in spring 2019, almost half came from Europe.
