The electronics specialists at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg, Germany, are now offering their CHARX connect modular type 2 charging sockets with reduced installation depth: With the third generation, the company claims to be presenting an optimized solution for flexible and space-saving integration into charging infrastructure solutions.
By reducing the installation depth by almost 20 millimeters, the new charging sockets offer up to 38 percent space savings compared to the previous generation. According to the manufacturer, they are ideal for compact wall boxes and charging stations with limited installation space. Another new feature is that the charging socket can now be mounted directly on the circuit board as an alternative to the classic installation using pluggable connection cables. The new generation also offers a choice of three actuator positions at four o'clock, eight o'clock, and twelve o'clock. This allows individual adaptation to different installation situations. The charging socket is suitable for both front and rear panel mounting.
Like its predecessor, the third generation is based on a modular, twice-awarded modular system. The individual components and features can be combined individually: IP55 protective covers in round or square designs, optionally with integrated RGB LED status display and shutter. The pluggable connection cables are also available in various lengths and power classes, optionally with temperature sensors. In addition, the new generation is fully compatible with all components of the CHARX connect modular family, offering maximum design freedom for manufacturers of AC charging infrastructure.
According to Phoenix Contact, the AC charging sockets also meet particularly high requirements in terms of safety, robustness, and design, ensuring reliable operation even under demanding environmental conditions. The optionally integrated PTC temperature sensor protects against overheating, while the mechanical shutter ensures standard-compliant touch protection in accordance with protection class IPXXD. Furthermore, the fully molded, specially coated contacts are said to offer outstanding corrosion protection, a long service life, and efficient power transmission. According to Phoenix Contact, the intuitive one-handed operation and the compact, robust design with glass fiber-reinforced plastic make CHARX connect modular the ideal solution for a demanding charging infrastructure – even in particularly small spaces.
