Renesas Electronics Corporation and US-based Integrated Device Technology (IDT) announced the takeover on September 11. The purchase of the mixed-signal specialist IDT will cost Renesas about $ 6.7 billion (€ 5.8 billion) or $ 49 per share. It should be completed by mid-2019. Renesas, one of the world's largest suppliers of semiconductors for the automotive industry, had already acquired the US chip manufacturer Intersi l for 3.2 billion US dollars in 2017. The company now operates under the name of Renesas Electronics America.

With the purchase of Californian IDT, a high-performance computing and consumer applications expert, for example in current monitoring, the Group is now adding sensor and RF products as well as SoCS and power management ICs to its portfolio. Renesas is leveraging the acquisition to prepare for the requirements associated with the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data as well as automated and e-mobility, while expanding internationally.
